Letter from the Editor

You know the special feeling you get when you hear one of your favorite songs? Maybe it's because of what the words mean to you, or how the rhythm moves you. Maybe it inspires you to dance or sing like you were in high school.

Perhaps there's a place that delights you and brings back memories that make you smile; a place you can go to find inspiration and tranquility. It holds a special place in your heart, or great importance in your life.

There may also be a few people in your life who bring out that special feeling in you. So much so that you want to spend time with them, laugh with them, and say or do anything to make them happy. You feel like a different person, a better person, when you're with them.

Most of us love these feelings, and welcome opportunities for more connection, inspiration, and joy in our lives.

Fond memories impact who we are, and the way we see others. Special moments with people in our past can help us remember what's important. Yet many of us are trapped in feelings of being overwhelmed with what's happening now, or worrying about what others think or what might happen in the future.

There are days when we're caught up in our "to-do" list rather than our "what's important" or "who we want to be" lists; so much so that we lose sight of what makes us happy. As the poet, Nishan Panwar, once said; "If we spend our time worrying about what others think, we will eventually forget how to think for ourselves."

Maybe it's time to redefine what's important, and reflect on who we are and what we want out of life. And then live with this in mind.

So step back, and think about who or what makes you happy and feel more alive. Make a commitment to do those things or be with those people on a regular basis. Then, "Surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you; not people who bring out the stress in you. " (Author unknown)
